Michael D. Weinman is a Savannah, Georgia photographer whose work spans nature, wildlife, landscape, botanical, bird, cultural, and travel imagery. His interest in photography began early: as a teenager on Long Island, he built a basement darkroom and started developing his own work.
His first exhibition followed a six-month stay in India sponsored by the University of Michigan Department of Anthropology. After spending two years in New York City trying to establish a photography career, Weinman went on to earn his M.D. at New York University, complete an internal medicine residency at Columbia, and complete a gastroenterology fellowship at Harvard. He joined his Savannah medical practice in 1988.
Photography remained a steady part of his life throughout his medical career. His camera continued to travel with him around the world, and his later work explored digital image-making through changes in color, tone, and layered imagery.
Weinman's archived website presented his work as fine-art prints and gifts, with galleries devoted to birds, botanicals, wildlife, frogs, cultural subjects, circus images, and note cards. The site's press page also pointed to coverage and mentions from Hospice Savannah, Coastal Antiques & Art, University of Michigan's Michigan Today, and Savannah Now.
